What’s so wrong with tapes? Frankly? There’s nothing wrong with tape backup and recovery it’s just generally not enough, not secure and/or not reliable. Tape backup relies heavily on responsible human stewardship. Nightly tape backups can more easily find themselves lost, stolen or corrupted. Tapes are not always encrypted and regular restoration testing is rare.
