Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
The established target time a company needs to be back up and running after the declaration of an ‘event’. Common options include 24-48 hours, 4-8 hours, 1 hour, and real-time.
Block Level Backup is a backup that looks at each individual data block as opposed to the entire stored file. Example: You’ve made minor modifications to a file or application that has already been backed up. The next storage update will save only the changes made rather than the entire file, conserving space while preserving the integrity of the data. This allows for an easier restore of files, databases, and even whole servers. Using block level backup you can retain more data, more efficiently.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
The point at which you wish to restore to in the event of a failure or disaster situation. Do you want to recover to the last transaction or will yesterday’s data suffice?
